The Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority is one of several regional development agencies within Nova Scotia. Each year, CBCEDA works with many economic, public, community and private sector partners in accomplishing projects and initiatives that have provided needed infrastructure that build on existing developments; created capacity among community groups; developed the strength of sectors; and strengthened partnerships within our region.

CBCEDA works in partnership with Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation, Nova Scotia Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, Service Canada, Department of Community Services, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia Community College - Marconi Campus, Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board, and Private & Community Sectors. CBCEDA is a member of the Nova Scotia Association of Regional Development Agencies. CBCEDA is legislated under the Regional Community Development Act - Bill 10 as well as the Society Act of Nova Scotia.

The creation of CBCEDA in 1994 signaled a shift in policy away from a somewhat fragmented to a more centralized approach to economic development within Cape Breton County. CBCEDA was preceded by a number of economic development groups and organizations across the County.

The Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority's mandate is to promote and facilitate economic development including business and community development in Cape Breton County through the promotion and implementation of strategic planning, business development, marketing, communications, and community development projects/initiatives.

The Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority has a very broad-based representation among its Board of Directors. As an RDA, CBCEDA has been involved with Board Governance training. |

According to the Client Survey Report, the staff of CBCEDA is considered one of the greatest strengths of the RDA.
