Cape Breton County Strategic Plan 2006-2016
In the fourth quarter of 2005, the Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority (CBCEDA) made a decision to structure its second long-term strategic plan that clearly identified the short-term and long-term economic development goals for our region.
The research and information gathered during the consultations stage clearly identified four large-scale economic drivers that will have long-term social and economic impacts on the region.
They include: ECBC Programs; the Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens Cleanup; Municipal Financing Reform in Nova Scotia; and the Demographic Shift. Once the economic drivers were identified, the second question of how could Cape Breton County position itself in terms of its challenges and opportunities to best utilize and provide for its greatest asset, the people of Cape Breton County, was addressed. In response to this question, three new strategic considerations were identified - Capacity, Lifestyle, and Innovation - which will become the pillars supporting the direction of this strategic plan.
