Invention has a history here. Alexander Graham Bell found inspiration in the hills and valleys of the island he grew to love. His passions for his work, his family and his home, Cape Breton, are legendary and continue to inspire the leaders of today and the future.

Cape Breton is the birthplace of telecommunications. At the turn of the century, Guglielmo Marconi was experimenting with wireless communications. The first Trans-Atlantic wireless message was sent from Table Head in 1902. |

| The inventors of the late 20th century use the same ingenuity and craft of their predecessors. Robert MacKenzie, owner/operator of Baytech Technologies, invented a lighting system that attaches to equipment used in mining and tunneling. MacKenzie's safety lights last for six months without a battery change and are being used in mines all over the world. Baytech is now exploring new product development and markets. | Dr. Krishnat Naikwadi developed the technology to manufacture fused silica capillary columns for general gas chromatographic applications which are regularly used all over the world in research. This major development has meant research advances in environmental, agricultural, petroleum, pulp and paper and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Naikwadi joins a long list of Cape Breton inventors whose dedication has pushed the limits of technology. |
